The purpose of the CEA is to:
  • Promote a strong and independent association to encourage a higher standard of skill among our members and to improve the economic status of our members,
  • Negotiate and bargain to enable association members to speak with a common voice on matters pertaining to the various skill areas our members represent,
  • Present their individual and collective interests before the Board of Education and other governing authorities, and
  • Hold property and funds for the attainment of these purposes.

YOU are the UNION!

Our union values are solidarity, democracy, advocacy, compromise, equality of opportunity, and dignity of work.

Our association relies on volunteers to provide programs & services for all and to accomplish its goals for public education. There are many areas that we can use volunteers. Interested? Contact the office today at [email protected] or (907) 373-0800.

Executive Board

The Executive Board is made up of elected members who represent our membership and guide the direction and focus of our association. Elections are in February each year.

MSCEA UniServ Director:
Nathan Coutsoubos - 907-274-0536 ext 543
“I’m excited to work with MatSu CEA as your UniServ Director!  I’ve been a UD for NEA-Alaska since August 2021, based out of Anchorage but working across the state on membership, recruiting, organizing, defending rights, negotiating, and all the other good stuff that your union does for educators.  I’m looking forward working with all the wonderful, dedicated MatSu educators.

Before joining NEA-Alaska as staff, I was a small school principal, and before that I was a proud NEA-Alaska member as a teacher in Dillingham.  Other hats I’ve worn include wildlife biologist, carpenter, bookseller, and wilderness guide.

I’m proud to support your efforts to make MatSu schools a great place for students and staff alike.”

NEA-Alaska

We are a local member of NEA-Alaska – the state education association – which represents over 2000 Education Support Professionals. Through NEA-Alaska, we belong to this statewide network of Education Support Professionals and benefit from the contributions of one another.

NEA-Alaska also helps us:
  • Win better pay, benefits, and working conditions.
  • Gain professional development and leadership training.
  • Be insured with life, health, disability, and casualty insurance programs.
  • Get credit, loan, savings, investment, and discount services.
  • Receive on-the-job liability insurance of up to $1 million.
  • Have tough and effective representation in job-related disputes through our UniServ program.
  • Speak out for our concerns in state legislatures and in the U.S. Congress.
  • Be represented at NEA-Alaska meetings.
  • Get association news through NEA print publications and on the web.

National Education Association

With 2.5 million members, the National Education Association is the largest employee organization in the country. And NEA's nearly half-million ESP members make us the largest organization of school support employees in the world. This numerical strength translates into advocacy and service -- for improved pay and working conditions, rights on the job, improved education for the students we serve, and great deals on products and services our members need.
